How to fire up a steamloc - train 1900 part 1 (Dick de Vreden) 5th November 2011
HD stockshots broadcast format available at: http://www.stockshot.nl/ - The steam engine of the olden days sometimes gets a second life. Volunteers unite resources to return old locomotives to prime condi¬tion. And above all ... to get them up and running again.
The engine is fired up early in the morning, with ordinary firewood and then the coals piece by piece. The ritual of firing up, pre-heating and bringing to pressure starts at the front. Before the engine is fully under steam, maintenance takes place.
At the end of the 19th century, the valley of the Chiers was one of the main regions of industrialisation in the border area of Luxembourg-Belgium-France. Nowadays you can go back to the origins of the industrialisation of this mining area by riding the "Train 1900" or by visiting the exhibition relating the difficult daily life at that time.
TRAIN 1900 is exploited by AMTF asbl (Association des Musée et Tourisme Ferroviaires) as part of the Industrial and Railway heritage project supported by the Ministry of Culture and its National Heritage Department.
