Melbourne Metro Rail Tunnel is a proposed new rail tunnel between Dynon in the west and St Kilda Road near Domain.
The underground link would benefit the entire metropolitan rail network by creating more rail capacity in the inner-city.
With proposed underground stops connecting to Melbourne Central and Flinders Street, it would give people from all lines an easy interchange point to access new stations in North Melbourne, Parkville, and St Kilda Road.
With $40 million in development funding from the Federal Government, the planning study is conducting investigations into the rail tunnel between Dynon and Domain. The continuation of the tunnel linking to the Caulfield/Dandenong rail corridor has been identified as a potential longer term initiative.
The Victorian Government is seeking Infrastructure Australia support for Commonwealth funding for delivery of Melbourne Metro.
