Olympic National Rail travel bulletin: Monday 6 August (ATOC) 7th August 2012

As the Olympics enters its final week train companies are providing significant amounts of extra capacity to get hundreds of thousands of spectators to events and home again today.
• Train companies are providing 571,276 extra seats and over 4.2 million seats in total today.
• Hundreds of extra staff from train companies and Network Rail are working at the busiest stations.
• Research by LOCOG shows that rail is the most popular method of travelling to Olympic events with around 55% of spectators using National Rail during their journeys, more than London Underground, bus or car.

The Transport Co-Ordination Centre, set up specifically for the 2012 Games, keeps transport operators informed of each other’s plans and how people are using the public transport system, and helps operators provide passengers with the most up-to-date travel information.

Over the Olympics, rail users are advised to plan ahead before travelling by visiting the Get Ahead of the Games website and to give themselves plenty of extra time to get to their final destination.

As at midday today, 95% of services were running to schedule across the network.

To get the latest real-time rail travel information, passengers should use the National Rail Enquiries (NRE) service, paid for and run by train companies, which they can access on the move. Passengers can:
• Download the free NRE apps for iPhone and Android smartphones, giving instant access to real time running information, journey planning and information on any disruption.
• Visit the
nationalrail.co.uk website to access live train departures boards and journey planners and to search for local operators’ trains.
• Follow NRE on
Twitter or their train company here.
• ‘Like’ NRE’s dedicated
Facebook page.
• Call NRE’s automated TrainTracker service on 0871 200 49 50.
