On Tuesday, Sept. 18, InnoTrans 2012 opens in Berlin, and over a period of four days, a record 2,515 exhibitors from 49 countries will be presenting their railway products and services—272 exhibitors more than at InnoTrans 2010.

Diagnostic and signalling system provider Mermec Group has won a contract from US rail operator Amtrak to install a complete catenary inspection system on a dedicated measuring coach.

"Granit" is a new Russian freight locomotive with asynchronous traction drive. It is produced with Siemens and "Siara Group" and is considered to be the most powerful locomotive for a 1520 mm track gauge. With it being able to transport a train weighing 40-50% more then conventional locomotives, just imagine the possibilities. Record results have been demonstrated with a test run through the Ural Mountains, with freight of over 9 thousand tons.
