Greater Wellington to order additional Matangi trains The Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) in New Zealand is planning to order an additional 35 Matangi trains from South Korean rolling stock manufacturing company Hyundai-Rotem. 
      
PCL secures South 200th Link light rail extension contract from Sound Transit in US
Washington State's regional transit authority Sound Transit has awarded a $169m contract to PCL Civil Constructors for the South 200th Street Link light rail extension project in Greater Seattle, Washington, US.

California commuter rail operator Caltrain has received $39.8m from the California Transportation Commission (CTC) to advance its modernisation and electrification programme.

AN Alstom Prima II locomotive was tested in the Channel Tunnel on the night of September 29-30 in what EuroTunnel says was a step to introducing standard locomotives on railfreight services between Britain and continental Europe.

THE Philippines Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has given bidders an extra month to submit pre-qualification documents for a Pesos 30bn ($US 720m) contract for the civil works to extend Line 1 of Manila's light rail network from Baclaran to Bacoor in Cavite.

GERMAN Rail (DB) has placed a €50m order with Bombardier for five more Twindexx Vario double-deck emus.

DB will use the trains on regional services linking the Baltic coast, with Berlin and destinations in the states of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony-Anhalt for which it won a concession recently.
