STATE-owned Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belkommunmash will ship three type 843 LRVs to Saint Petersburg by the end of the year, company representatives have confirmed.

BAHRAIN is aiming to complete its rail masterplan which includes mainline connections to neighbouring GCC countries Saudi Arabia and Qatar as well as plans for metro, light rail, and monorail systems by the end of the year, the country's minister of transport Mr Kamal Ahmed confirmed this week. These would be the first railways to built in Bahrain with the plans due to be realised by 2030.

PLANNING approval has been granted by the Australian state government of New South Wales for the start of construction on the North West Rail Link, a 23km line to Rouse Hill to Epping via Castle in the northwest Sydney suburbs.

Network Rail invites five bidders to tender for 13 Crossrail stations Network Rail has invited five contractors to bid for the detailed design and construction of the 13 stations along the western section of Crossrail from Acton Main Line in West London to Maidenhead in Berkshire. 
      
Alstom wins railway maintenance contract from Kazakhstan Railways
Alstom has won a 25-year contract worth €100m from AO Locomotive, a Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) subsidiary, to maintain and modernise its 27 KZ4ACs passenger locomotives. 
      
ABB to provide FACTS solution for Haramain rail project in Saudi Arabia
Swiss power and automation firm ABB has secured a $115m contract from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to provide a flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) to improve the reliability of the power supply to railway interconnections. 
      
Bombardier to supply signalling system for Sungai Buloh-Kajang line in Malaysia
Canadian rail manufacturer Bombardier Transportation has secured a five-year, MYR281m ($91.7m) contract from Malaysia's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) to supply its Cityflo 650 control system in the greater Kuala Lumpur area in Malaysia.
