BIDS will be submitted to Hungary's National Info-communications Services Company (NISZ) this week for a contract to extend GSM-R coverage to a further 905 route-km of the country's main line network.

BRAZIL's National Development Bank (BNDES) announced on January 18 that it will invest up Reais 6.6bn ($US 3.17bn) in the 511km high-speed line from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo and Campinas.

BNSF Railway, the second largest Class 1 railway in the United States, says it will increase capital investment this year by 11% to $US 4.1bn.

Amtrak and California to jointly procure new high-speed trains Amtrak and the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) have jointly issued a request for information (RFI) to buy a common fleet of next-generation high speed trains. 
      
Massachusetts unveils plans to improve rail infrastructure
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) in the US has unveiled its 21st-Century Transportation Plan to improve rail infrastructure and services across its service area over the next decade. 
      
Singapore to double metro rail network by 2030
The Singapore Government plans to more than double its 178km metro and light rail network to around 360km by 2030, bringing eight in ten households within a ten minute walk of a rail station. 
      
Thailand's Kasetsart University signs deal with Bombardier for rail engineering education
Kasetsart University in Thailand has signed an agreement with Canadian rail manufacturer Bombardier to impart rail engineering education to its students and instructors over the next five years.
