CITY of Edinburgh Council has selected Parkeon Transit to supply the complete fare collection system for the city's light rail line, the final major contract to be awarded for the £776m project.

AUSTRIAN Federal Railways (ÖBB) has published plans for a 250km/h line to link Salzburg and Köstendorf to relieve congestion on the parallel Salzburg – Vienna main line and provide an alternative to the tortuous Salzburg – Steindorf section.

CALIFORNIA's high-speed project has taken an important step forward after the state Public Works Board gave California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) approval to begin negotiations for land acquisition for the 209km Initial Operating Section (IOS) Stage 1.

ONE of Russia's largest private railfreight operators, NefteTrans Service (NTS), plans an initial public offering of ordinary shares on the London Stock Exchange during the first half of this year..

China Railway Construction secures contracts worth $1.4bn China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) has secured two contracts worth a total of RMB8.73bn ($1.4bn) for railway electrification and railway construction projects in China. 
      
Construction on Crossrail Custom House station to start this week
Construction on the £35m Crossrail Station at Custom House is set to start this week on the site of the former North London Line Station. 
      
EDF Energy signs ten-year deal to power UK rail network
EDF Energy, a unit of France-based Electricite de France (EDF), has won a £3bn contract from Network Rail to supply 3.2 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity a year to power the UK's rail network. 
      
CSR Puzhen to deliver Bombardier Flexity 2 design trams to Suzhou
CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock (CSR Puzhen), a partner of Bombardier, has secured a contract from the city of Suzhou in China to supply 18 low-floor trams.

The project, which forms part of the “Railway axis Gdańsk–Warszawa–Brno/Bratislava-Wien” (TEN-T Priority Project 23), will lay the groundwork for key improvements to be realised on this key section of the Polish railway network.
