Bids have been invited by Transport for London (TfL) for a concessionaire to operate the new 118km east-west Crossrail line, the first phase of which is due to open in May 2015. The deadline for expressions of interest is April 30 with a view to appointing an operator in late 2014.

AURIZON and GVK Coal Infrastructure, Singapore, a subsidiary of GVK Hancock, have signed a non-binding agreement to develop port and rail infrastructure that will unlock coal reserves from GVK Hancock's mines in Queensland's Galilee Basin..

    Leighton Contractors to deliver Epping to Thornleigh third track project Leighton Contractors has won a contract worth A$120m ($122m) from Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to carry out the A$265m ($271m) Epping to Thornleigh Third Track (ETTT) project in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia. 
          
    Brookville Equipment to deliver two off-wire capable light rail vehicles to DART
    Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) in Texas, US has awarded a $9.4m contract to Brookville Equipment to supply two off-wire capable light rail vehicles (LRVs) for use on the Union Station - Oak Cliff extension. 
          
    Aurizon and GVK to jointly develop rail and port in Australia
    Aurizon and GVK Coal Infrastructure (GVK Hancock) have signed an agreement to jointly develop around $6bn worth of rail and port infrastructure with a capacity to handle 60 million tonnes of coal per year in the Galilee coal basin in Queensland, Australia. 
          
    HART secures US FTA funds for Honolulu rail project
    The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) has received a $67.5m federal grant out of the proposed $1.55bn funding from the US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the $5.17bn Honolulu rail transit projectHonolulu rail transit project in Hawaii.

    railwaygazette.com reports that following approval by the Channel Tunnel Safety Authority, Brush Traction is replacing the Halon-based fire suppression equipment in the power cars of Eurostar’s high speed trains with Stat-X systems supplied by Nobel Fire Systems.
