THE China Development Bank has agreed to lend Transnet, South Africa, approximately $US 5bn to support its planned railway infrastructure rehabilitation programme which is worth over Rand 300bn ($US 33.82bn) over the next seven years.

POMERANIAN Metropolitan Railway (PKM) has awarded a €141m contract to build a 17km line linking Gdansk and Gdynia with Lech Walesa Airport to a consortium of Spanish construction group Ferrovial and Budimex, Poland.

AUSTRIAN Federal Railways (ÖBB) celebrated another landmark in the four-tracking of the Westbahn between Vienna and Linz on April 2 with the opening of the 16.7km Ybbs – Amstetten high-speed line.

Tognum to refurbish rail power packs for Veolia Verkehr German propulsion and power solutions provider Tognum has secured a €20m contract from Veolia Verkehr, a private operator of regional services in Germany's bus and rail system, to refurbish underfloor rail drives. 
      
Russian Railways and SNCF sign agreement to set up high-speed rail transportation centre
Russian Railways (RZD) and French national rail operator SNCF, along with technical universities from both countries, have signed an agreement to set up an international centre for high-speed rail and transport systems.
      
Crossrail to award tunnel fit-out contract to Alstom, TSO and Costain joint venture
Crossrail is set to award a €350m contract to ATC, a joint venture comprising Alstom Transport, French trackwork provider TSO and British engineering firm Costain, to carry out the major fit-out and commissioning of new rail tunnels in London, UK.
      
Network Rail invites bidders for Crossrail east London stations upgrade
Network Rail has invited tenders to carry out the Crossrail works on the north-east surface section between Stratford in east London and Shenfield in Essex.
