THE Queensland state government has announced that work will start in 2015 on a $A 5bn ($US 4.8bn) project to build a double-deck tunnel under the centre of Brisbane for use by buses and trains.

HANNOVER Transport Authority (Üstra) exercised an option for another 50 type TW 3000 light rail vehicles on November 15 to coincide with the completion of the first batch of 50 units by a consortium of Vossloh Kiepe and Alstom.

THE FIRST two of 95 Class 20E dual-voltage electric locomotives being supplied to Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) by the CSR E-loco supply consortium was transferred from the port of Durban to the nearby depot at Umbilo on November 14 for commissioning.

PARIS celebrated the latest addition to its rapidly-expanding light rail network on November 16, when Line T7 was officially inaugurated in the presence of dignitaries including the president of Ile de France regional council Mr Jean-Paul Huchon, Paris Transport Authority (RATP) president Mr Pierre Mongin, and the chairman of Ile-de-France Transport Authority (STIF) Mr Christian Favier.

    Kapsch to install GSM-R train radio system in Poland
    Kapsch CarrierCom has won a €41.5m contract with Polish rail operator Polskie Koleje Panstowe (PKP) to design and install the GSM-R train radio system on E20 line between Kunowice and Terespol. 

           
    Canada safety watchdog says no strategy in place to avoid Burlington-type train accidents
    Transport Canada has not developed a clear strategy to avoid incidents such as the 2012 VIA Rail Burlington accident, according to The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).
