Siemens sends its first multiple-unit train to Russia (Siemens) 2nd March 2012

Russia - The first of 38 vehicles departs from the Island of Ruegen by
railway ferry
The first of 38 complete Desiro RUS regional multiple-unit trainsets commences its journey from Krefeld to Saint Petersburg. It will travel around 2,700 kilometers - mainly by waterways: from Krefeld via the River Rhine to Amsterdam, from where it will continue its trip to the Island of Ruegen and finally to the port of Ust-Luga. Rail or road transport is not possible:  At the Sassnitz ferry port, Siemens will place the train on Russian broad gauge tracks for the very first time....
