World Bank: Kenya underutilizing her rail network (NTV) 6th March 2012

The adoption of rail transport in Kenya to move bulk cargo is critical to the acceleration of economic growth and lightening of the load currently borne by the road network. Rift Valley Railways, the concessionaire that is seeking to turn around matters on track is however yet to manage taking a bigger slice of the pie of cargo volumes at the port of Mombasa from road transport. World Bank Country Director Johannes Zutt now says the delay is creating an unnecessary drag on the pace of revolutions of Kenya's economic engine.
