Saudi Railways Organisation withdraws new CAF trains
MR Abdul Aziz Al-Hugail, president of Saudi Railways Organisation (SRO), has cast doubt over the future of the railway's deal with CAF for 200km/h diesel trains following a series of malfunctions just one month after the first five trains entered service.
Swiss and Italian intermodal operators sign MOU
SWISS intermodal operator Hupac and its Italian counterpart Cemat, together with Trenitalia, have signed a memorandum of understanding for the development of future intermodal terminals in Milan, Brescia and Piacenza that will aid intermodal freight traffic in Northern Italy and on the Rotterdam - Genoa corridor.
Lille selects Alstom for Euros 250m Line 1 upgrade
LILLE Metro has awarded Alstom a Euros 250m contract to modernise Line 1 including the supply of 27 rubber-tyred metro trains that will double capacity on the line and a new Urbalis CBTC signalling system.
Bure Equity invests in Swedish railfreight operator
SWEDISH equity company, Bure Equity, has agreed to provide financial backing for RushRail which has won a SKr 700m ($US 104m) contract from Trätåg, a logistics company, to transport forestry products, timber, pulp and bio-fuel in Sweden starting in 2013. As a result, Bure will invest SKr 20m in RushRail in return for a 30% stake in the company. Bure has also placed a SKr 225m contract with Bombardier for seven Traxx F140 electric locomotives which will be leased to RushRail. The locomotives will be delivered in the fourth quarter of this year.
Stadler rolls-out first dmu for Arriva Netherlands
THE first of 24 diesel-electric articulated dmus has been rolled out by Stadler Rail for operation by Arriva on its Rivierenland Achterhoek passenger rail concession in the Netherlands. The trains are part of a larger order for 38 dmus, with the other 14 destined for service in the Dutch provinces of Overijssel and Drenthe.
