BNSF

Take Action - Now is the time to bring good jobs, better air quality, and less traffic to Southern California.
Have you heard about SCIG?
We need your help connecting Southern California to good jobs, less traffic and cleaner air! BNSF has proposed what will be the greenest intermodal rail facility in the United States - the Southern California International Gateway (SCIG), which will move freight onto rail close to the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, shortening the current truck trip from 24 to 4 miles.
On September 27th, the Port of Los Angeles issued an updated Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) that confirmed SCIG will result in an overall improvement in air quality, health risk and traffic in both the immediate neighborhoods around the site and throughout the region. Additionally, the project would create thousands of jobs and generate millions in state and local tax revenue.

What can you do?

  • If you live in Southern California, plan to attend the public hearing on October 18, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Banning's Landing Community Center in Wilmington
  • If you live outside Southern California, or can't attend the hearing, submit a comment in support of SCIG to the Port of Los Angeles before November 9, 2012 at ceqacomments@portla.org

Siemens presents the first carbody for Munich's new metro trains

Berlin / Munich, Germany, 2012-Oct-08
In a ceremony in its Vienna plant, the Siemens Rail Systems Division has presented to the Munich City Utilities (SWM) the first painted carbody of the new metro trains ordered for the Munich transit company MVG. It is the end section of the first of 21 C2 type six-car permanently coupled trains, which the SWM/MVG ordered from Siemens at the end of 2010. This was the largest order for rolling stock in the history of the Munich Underground. The investment totals about 185 million euros. At the same time, SWM/MVG took out two options on a further 23 metro trains, for a total of 276 cars, which can be transformed into firm orders until 2016 and 2020, respectively. This would increase the total investment to around 550 million euros. The new trains are being built in the Siemens plants in Vienna, Austria, and in Munich-Allach, Germany. From the seventh train onward, final assembly will take place in Munich.
