DATA compiled by the European Railway Agency (ERA) shows that 2011 was the safest year on Europe's railways since the first study to compile common data across 27 EU member states and Norway was released in 2006.

A BILATERAL agreement was signed in Buenos Aires on October 15 that will pave the way for the restoration of freight services across the border between Chile and Argentina.

RUSSIAN Railways (RZD) announced on October 16 that it has concluded negotiations with potential buyers of a 25% plus one share stake in its former subsidiary Freight One, with Independent Transport Company (ITC) submitting the best binding offer.

CalAmp has won a contract from Parsons, prime contractor for the Metrolink positive train control (PTC) system in California, US, to supply wireless communications devices. 
      
Bombardier delivers first Flexity Classic tram to MPK Krakow
Canadian manufacturer Bombardier Transportation has delivered the first of 24 Flexity Classic trams to Poland's Krakow Transport Authority (MPK Kraków).
