Atkins Wins Coveted Construction Week Oman Awards

Engineering Design Consultancy, Atkins, has received two top honours at the Construction Week Awards in Oman.

The coveted Design Consultancy of the Year Award was presented in recognition of Atkins’ record of delivering innovative, original and consistent expertise on a range of projects over the preceding year. Atkins demonstrated its ability to deliver innovation, enhance projects, and contribute to client success, beating stellar competition. Atkins’ commitment to the construction industry in the Middle East region was also recognised.

Managing Director Matthew Squires received the Construction Executive of the Year Award, in recognition of his honest and open business relationships. Judges singled him out for bringing international standards to Omani Projects, and encouraging and guiding young Omani professionals.
Among the company’s achievements have been the establishment of a graduate training scheme and bringing international standards of sustainability to its projects.

Chief Operating Officer for the region, Simon Moon congratulated the team on the awards. “I’m delighted that Matt and the whole team in Oman have been recognised for their achievements over the last year, which have provided a solid foundation for long term growth.” he said.

SIEMENS reported its financial results for the first half of the 2013 financial year on 2 May, which show second quarter group revenues fell 7% year-on-year to €18bn with profits of €1.37bn.

The Transportation and Logistics business unit posted a loss of €156m, largely due to the additional €161m cost incurred through delays in approving both the Velaro-D (class 407) high-speed trains for German Rail (DB) and the Velaro e320 (class 374) sets for Eurostar.

    The Indian Ministry of Railways has received approval from the government to start the bidding process for establishing an electric locomotive manufacturing plant at Madhepura and a diesel locomotive factory at Marhowra in the state of Bihar.
     
    Hitachi Rail Europe has selected UK-based wireless technology provider Nomad Digital to provide on-board servers (OBS) for a fleet of 92 future high-speed Super Express trains being supplied for the UK's Intercity Express Programme (IEP).
