NATIONAL Express has placed its first rolling stock order for its German regional rail operations, with the awarding of €170m contract to Bombardier for 35 Talent 2 emus.
 
LOCOMOTIVE leasing company Mitsui Rail Capital Europe (MRCE) has ordered 15 Vectron four-axle ac electric locomotives from Siemens which are intended for use on cross-border operations between Germany, Austria and Hungary.
 
NETHERLANDS Railways (NS) says it is considering abandoning its fleet of V250 trains as it is unconvinced that AnsaldoBreda will be able to correct the numerous faults on the trains within an acceptable period.
 
SERBIAN Railways (ZS) president Mr Dragoljub Simonović and Mr Sergey Pavlov, CEO of Russian Railways (RZD) subsidiary RZD International, have signed a $US 800m loan agreement which will finance the renewal of rolling stock and infrastructure in what is described as the largest investment in the Serbian network for decades.

    Trapeze acquires Funkwerk York
    Trapeze has acquired Funkwerk Information Technologies York, a subsidiary of Funkwerk Technologies, to expand its offering in advanced planning, operational management and simulation software tools for the rail industry. 
           
    New South Wales to trial electronic ticketing system for trains in June
    The New South Wales (NSW) government in Australia is planning to trial its Opal electronic transport ticketing system on certain train routes in Sydney. 

           
    Alstom unveils Citadis Spirit LRV for North American market
    Alstom has unveiled its new Citadis Spirit light rail vehicle (LRV) for the North American market at the ongoing 2013 American Public Transportation Association Rail Conference in Philadelphia, US. 

           
    Spanish construction wins Doha metro station contract
    A consortium comprising Spanish construction and civil engineering firm Obrascon Huarte Lain (OHL), Samsung C&T and Qatar Building Company has secured a €1.1bn contract from Qatar Railway Company to build two metro stations in Doha.
