THE CEO of Malaysia's Land Public Transport Commission (Spad), Mr Mohd Nur Kamal, says he expects tenders to be invited for a high-speed line to link Kuala Lumpur with Singapore by the end of next year.

SPANISH transport minister Mr Rafael Catala has confirmed in a radio broadcast that excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the derailment of a Madrid – Ferrol service 4km south of Santiago de Compostela on July 24, which killed 78 people.

THE district court of Warsaw has ordered Poland's national treasury to compensate state-owned regional passenger operator Regional Railways (PR), after the government failed to pay for the operation of inter-regional services between 2006 and 2008.

    Germany's Ministry of Transport and Deutsche Bahn (DB) have signed a €1.5bn agreement to fund an upgrade of the 73km line between the Dutch border at Emmerich and Oberhausen.

    The UK Court of Appeal has rejected the latest attempts to halt the £42.6bn High Speed 2 (HS2) rail project. The court dismissed all seven challenges to the project and cleared the way for the government to move ahead with its plans.

    Hertfordshire County Council and London Underground have secured approval from the UK Government to build, operate and maintain the £118m Croxley Rail Link project.
    Under the government's Transport and Works Act Order, the project now has the relevant planning permission, access rights and land transfers needed for implementation.
