The new locomotives are designed to operate reliably even under the extreme climatic conditions in Scandinavia during their long service life. Siemens was able to provide clear evidence of their capability during comprehensive test and authorization trips in Sweden and Norway. "The selection was made after a long and careful examination. The electric locomotive manufactured by Siemens is well suited to the challenging conditions in Finland", says VR Group's President and CEO Mikael Aro. The locomotives for VR-Yhtymä Oy will benefit from the valuable experience gained during these tests. In addition, the Vectron fleet has already traveled far more than one million kilometers. Vectron locomotives are operating according to timetable in Germany, Poland and Sweden. The new generation of electric Siemens locomotives is well established in the market. Siemens was already able to sell more than 50 of them to seven international customers so far.
The Vectron locomotives are based on a technical platform. This concept enables Siemens to design and manufacture vehicle variants such as alternating system or multi system locomotives according to customer-specific requirements within a short time. Authorization has already been granted for Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Sweden.Romanian Ministry of Transport published the Government Decision on the technical-economic indicators for Frontieră – Curtici – Simeria railway
On 10 December, Romanian Ministry of Transport published the draft GD on the approval of technical-economic indicators of the investment objective “Rehabilitation of Frontieră – Curtici – Simeria railway, a component of Corridor IV pan-European for the traffic of trains at the maximum speed of 160 km/h; Section 2: km 614 – Gurasada and Section 3: Gurasada – Simeria. The investment cost is RON 10.9 Billion (EUR 2.45 Billion) of which 9.2 Billion (EUR 2 Billion) are necessary for construction and assembly, the funds being ensured from non-reimbursable funds allocated by EC (through Cohesion Fund) and from the state budget.
The rehabilitation of the Frontieră– Curtici – Simeria railways is divided in 2 sections: section 2: Km 614 – Gurasada and section 3: Gurasada – Simeria, the length of the line being of 144 km (double and electrified line) and, according to the document, the investment duration is of 3 years. For this railway transport corridor, which is in different phases of modernisation, the designed solution ensures traffic at a maximum speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.
The train signalling and control traffic system, ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 plus GSM-R, is also adopted and the technical parameters in conformity with AGTC and AGC standards are aligned according to the European railway transport commitments assumed by Romania. “By applying the technical solutions of the project we obtain: modernisation of the railway line, sections 2 and 3: Km 614 – Gurasada and section 3: Gurasada – Simeria representing 348.3 km of new railway line, the equivalent of single-track line, the implementation of the ERTMS/ETCS – Level 2 and GSM-R, the execution of 3 new tunnels, double line, with a length of 1,564 m; the execution of a 225-m long double-track section, the assembly of sound absorbing panels on 2,595 metres”, the document shows.

Developed exclusively by Alstom, APS powers the Citadis tram via a third rail embedded in the ground, preserving the city's architectural heritage. To avoid any risk to other road users (pedestrians, cyclists or motorbikes), the third rail is divided into separate sections that are only powered when the tram passes over them. This technology is the result of over ten years' Research and Development.
