Crossrail continues to deliver.....and David Higgins sets out  his vision for HS2, but one village doesn't want to be a part of it...everybody's leaving!
And it is somewhat ironic that a day after a BBC report extolled the virtues  of the Settle-Carlisle line, and its fight for survival 25 years ago, we now have a feature that suggests the fight is far from over...!!
With high speed rail, you can now have your breakfast in London, and your dinner in Barcelona!
But 100 years ago, all over  4 million servicemen got before their European journey was a cup of tea at York Station. Christian Wolmar's book "Engines of War" well documents the change to warfare that the railways brought.....

The new chairman of HS2 Ltd, David Higgins, has published his review of the project, including his thoughts on the progress made so far, its ongoing development and his plans for the future. The 2nd European Rail Congress will take place in London across 11 and 12 November 2014 and will stage a prestigious awards ceremony and summit.
 
The European Rail Congress is about bringing the European rail network together to disseminate best practice across 18 different areas. It also provides a platform for leading European players to discuss and debate the key challenges and opportunities for the European rail market.
 
Entries for the awards will be accepted online up to 30 April 2014 and will be assessed by our expert judging panel, which will be chaired by Brian Simpson, MEPChair, European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee.
 
Winners of the 18 prestigious awards will be announced at the 2nd Awards ceremony and dinner in London, which will take place on the evening of 11 November during our European Rail Congress at the Westminster Park Plaza, London.
 
Entries are being accepted via www.europeanrailcongress.com.
 
The use of data analytics for safety is on the rise. We have spoke to Sebastian Oertel, from TUV Rheinland Mobility about how software can be used to reduce the risk of accidents.
 
CSR Puzhen rolls out first Bombardier low-floor tram for China
CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock has unveiled its first low-floor tram for Suzhou, China, which was manufactured as part of a 10-year licence to produce trams based on Bombardier Transportation's FLEXITY 2 technology. 
       
Birchwood railway station will soon provide step-free access to all platforms thanks to a £2m renovation. 
       
National rail operator China Railway Corporation is planning to invest around CNY720bn ($116bn), up by CNY20bn ($3.23bn) announced in its original plan, to build new rail lines this year. 
       
The China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) has contracted Siemens to deliver its signalling equipment for the Suzhou line 2 extension.
