International & UK Railway News Wednesday 2nd April 2014

Safety on the railways....and security....are in the news. Firstly, a teenager manages to hurt himself in a railway line explosion in Coseley. Maybe this will be included in UK Parliament's Transport Select Committee's look at railway security.

HS2 is winning over the business doubters, apparently. And plans for the completion date of the Bedford - Oxford link are put back a couple of years..to 2019. Procurement for Crossrail2 could  start in 2018....

Its all happening.....

Case Study: Developing a multi-service network for the Nizhny Novgorod Metro in Russia
By Luke Upton, 2 Apr 2014 15:52:38
Today SmartRail World travles to Nizhny Novgorod, the fifth largest city in Russia to find out more about a recent pilot programme to fit their Metro system with a multi-service network. Opened in 1985, the Nizhny Novgorod Metro (Russian: Нижегородское метро) has two lines and 14 stations covering a network 18.8km long. In pursuing a mobile environment, the Metro contacted Firetide, an international company that provides fixed and mobile private broadband solutions with a history of successful installations in major metros from San Francisco to Seoul and years of technological innovation. We talk exclusively to Firetide to gain the inside track on this project.
