Alstom/TMH sign St Petersburg light rail agreement (IRJ) 17th November 2011

International Railway Journal

ALSTOM and its Russian strategic partner Transmashholding (TMH) have signed a memorandum of understanding with St Petersburg city council to cooperate on the development of modern light rail technology for the city.
Under the terms of the agreement, Alstom and TMH joint subsidiary TRTrans will develop a new low-floor express LRV adapted to the specific climatic conditions of the region. The partners will also provide consultation services to the council on urban transport, project management, and passenger flow optimisation.

Design and engineering, production, assembly, and maintenance will be concentrated on a new LRV competence centre at Oevrz in St Petersburg.

The two companies said in September that they are likely to bid for the planned light rail line linking the city centre with Pulkovo International Airport.

An in-depth feature on the partnership between Alstom and TMH will appear in the December issue of IRJ.
