One million mobile phone tickets sold in Frankfurt
THE Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV), which is responsible for public transport in the Frankfurt area, has sold more than 1 million mobile phone tickets using a smartphone app and mobile ticketing system supplied by Cubic. The system was introduced in October 2010 for iPhone, android and BlackBerry mobile phones and now has more than 40,000 users.
Wheel lubrication cuts wheel and track wear in Manchester
A TWO-STAGE 18-month trial has been completed on Manchester Metrolink aimed at reducing LRV wheel flange and track wear, as well as the associated noise, using an Intelligent Wheel Flange Lubrication (iWFL) system developed by Rowe Hankins, Britain. The iWFL system extended the distance the AnsaldoBreda T68 LRV could cover before re-profiling of the wheel flanges from 55,000 to 87,000km.
Kazakhstan Railways declares a profit
BOTH traffic and turnover increased last year for Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ) enabling it to declare a profit of a Tenge 123bn ($US 832m). KTZ also doubled capital investment to Tenge 394bn.
GATX enters Indian freight wagon leasing market
THE Indian subsidiary of US freight wagon leasing company GATX, which was set up in 2010, has purchased 10 rakes of 45 container flat wagons which it has leased to Arshiya Rail Infrastructure (ARI) for 10 years. ARI is an Indian container train operator.
Alstom becomes sole shareholder of Alstom Locomotive Service
GERMAN Rail (DB) has agreed to relinquish its 49% stake in the Alstom Locomotive Service (ALS) joint venture to majority shareholder Alstom Germany.
Riyadh metro project prequalification starts
ARRIYADH Development Authority (ADA) has launched the prequalification for a turnkey contract to design, build and equip Phase 1 of the Riyadh light metro, with an option to maintain the three-lines 92km network. Design has so far only been completed for lines 1 and 2 which have an estimated cost of Riyals 17bn ($US 4.5bn).

ICBC to fund Eastern Rail lines project in GhanaThe Ghanaian government is expecting to secure $990m funding from the Investment and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) for repair works on the Eastern Rail lines, which include sections between Nsawam to Accra and Achimota to Tema.
