A PROJECT to understand and address the causes of poor electrical transfer on the third rail dc network has been launched as part of the recently-formed alliance between British infrastructure manager Network Rail and train operator Southern.

THE first CAF Civity regional emu for the Italian autonomous region of Friuli Venezia Giulia was delivered to Italian State Railways' (FS) Osmannoro test centre on July 31 for static and dynamic testing.


THE first Stadler LRV to be equipped with supercapacitors for onboard energy storage has entered service with Geneva Public Transport (TPG).
The Tango LRV, one of 32 such vehicles in the TPG fleet, stores energy from the regenerative braking system in a roof-mounted module for reuse as traction power during acceleration.

Ireland approves Dublin tram link project
The Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) of Ireland has granted permission for the €370m Luas Broombridge project to link two Luas tram lines in Dublin city centre.
