Macquarie to acquire European rolling stock leasing business Macquarie Bank has formed a new European rail business unit and agreed to acquire Lloyd's Banking Group's European rolling stock leasing business. 
      
Crossrail's third TBM Elizabeth starts tunnel to Farringdon
Crossrail's third tunnel boring machine (TBM), Elizabeth, has started work on 8.3km of eastern tunnels between the Docklands and Farringdon in central London, UK.

Crossrail moved a significant step forward today as London’s newest ‘eastender’ – 1,000 tonne tunnelling machine Elizabeth – began the 8.3km tunnelling journey to create the eastern section of the new rail line between Docklands and central London.



EIB funds Quito metro project in Ecuador
The European Investment Bank (EIB) will provide a €200m loan to the Republic of Ecuador for the construction of a €1bn metro line project in the Ecuadorian capital of Quito. 
      
Trensurb awards Porto Alegre Metro trains contract to FrotaPoa consortium in Brazil
Trensurb, the metro rail operator in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, has awarded a €94m contract to the FrotaPoa consortium, comprising Alstom and CAF Brazil, to provide 15 trains.
