RUSSIAN car builder Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) and its partner Bombardier have today unveiled at the Hannover Fair models of a new metro train and a new LRV which they are developing jointly for Russia.

RUSSIAN Railways (RZD) has signed a memorandum of understanding for the supply of 350 four-axle electric locomotives with Siemens and its Russian joint venture partner Sinara.

SIEMENS has awarded Bombardier a €336m contract to supply bodyshells and bogies for a batch of 170 ICx high-speed coaches ordered by German Rail (DB) under a framework agreement with Siemens.

THE Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), an office of the president of the Philippines, has given the go-ahead to Japan to conduct a full feasibility study of a proposed 12.6km elevated monorail line in Manila.

Network Rail is due to complete a £48m project to replace the Loughor railway viaduct near Swansea, Wales, and redouble a 5.25-mile line from Gowerton to Llanelli.

Morocco's national railway operator Office National des Chemin de Fer (ONCF) has awarded a €136m contract to Colas Rail and its subsidiary Colas Rail Maroc to design and build a 185km double-track high-speed train line between Tangier and Kenitra.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) in the US is investing $20m on the southern Green Line on Chicago's L rapid transit system to improve track and stations.
