78 Years ago (1934) the first of an eventual 842
LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 appeared.
Black 5s, as they became known, were seen working over the whole UK rail network, and gained a reputation as a solid performer, even
matching express locomotives when called upon to haul such trains.
They were amongst the last locomotives performing at the end of steam, hauling the "15 Guinea Special".......
Several have survived into preservation.....
