59 Days to Railfest 2012!! 4th April 2012



59 Years ago....

In 1953 (October) –North British Locomotive Company  started  delivery of class 25 4-8-4 locomotives to South African Railways (3ft 6 in gauge), the largest rigid-frame steam locomotives  built in the UK (with condensing tenders, 234tons  7 cwt, and 107 ft 6 in. over buffers).

This historic 15F steam locomotive travelled 7,000kms on rails, in a ship and on truck from the South African town of Bloemfontein to Glasgow in Scotland over 40 days and nights to display at Glasgow's Transport Museum. This song tells the story of its journey. The excerpt is from the forthcoming Five series 'Monster Moves' airing in Spring 2008.
