UITP - International Association of Public Transport

The future of urban mobility takes shape in Geneva
    26th-30th May 2013.

The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) World Congress & Mobility and City Transport Exhibition in Geneva will play host to 300 international exhibitors displaying the latest and most up-to-date solutions, including several world premiers. Spread out across 30,000m², the Exhibition is set to attract 10,000 of the world’s top political, operational, technical and commercial decision makers.

The world’s sustainable mobility community will convene at the UITP World Congress & Mobility and City Transport Exhibition to display a series of innovations that are helping to define the shape of future urban mobility.

In addition to the Exhibition there will also be a series of
Expo Forums where exhibitors themselves present the most advanced technologies and share their knowledge and innovations.

Highlights on display at the Mobility & City Transport Exhibition:

Bombardier’s newest Systems technology, the INNOVIA Monorail 300 system, is game changing as it offers similar capacity to a metro, yet the light infrastructure required reduces the construction price and the implementation schedule by up to half, bringing quality of life benefits sooner and more cost effectively. Requiring no major infrastructure or civil works, it offers capacity of up to 48,000 passengers per hour per direction. Bombardier was contracted in late 2010 to design, supply and install a 24 km, 17 station monorail line in São Paulo, set to be the world’s highest capacity monorail, connecting Vila Prudente and Cidade Tiradentes, with a maximum capacity of 48,000 pphpd, or 500,000 per day. This journey currently takes almost two hours and will be reduced to approximately 50 minutes with the new Monorail. The first section of the new line, connecting the stations of Vila Prudente and Oratorio is predicted to start passenger service in early 2014, followed by another 2 sections before the end of 2016. (A scale model will be on display at stand 2A600)

Bridge near Streatham Common station to reopen two months early.

A bridge near Streatham Common station which has been closed since November 2012 is to reopen more than two months early.
The bridge on Greyhound Lane has been closed to vehicles while Network Rail extends platforms at the station underneath. Sections of the bridge had to be removed and replaced to accommodate the longer platforms below.
Rebuilding the bridge has been completed ahead of schedule and work to replace utilities running across the bridge has been quicker to complete than expected.
As a result, Network Rail has been in discussion with Lambeth Council and the local business association and agreed the bridge will reopen to traffic on Tuesday 7 May.
Simon Chapman, Network Rail’s route enhancement manager for the Sussex route, said: “While the bridge closure was essential to allow for platform lengthening at the station, we are fully aware of the impact it has had in the local area. Again, I would like to apologise to businesses and residents for the disruption caused.
“When carrying out a project of this size, we have to plan for the worst case scenario. We have done all we can to progress the work as quickly as possible and, by working closely with the utility companies, are able to reopen the bridge more than two months early.”
The bridge was originally due to reopen to one way traffic from the end of April with a full reopening at the end of July.
A public meeting organised by Lambeth Council and Network Rail is due to take place at Granton Primary School at 7pm on 16th April 2013.(today)
